Ebook About
Named one of "The 20 Greatest Ever Romance Novels According to Goodreads Reviews" by O, The Oprah Magazine Young interior designer Ava O'Shea has no idea what awaits her at the Manor. A run-of-the-mill consultation with a stodgy country gent seems likely, but what Ava finds instead is Jesse Ward--a devastatingly handsome, utterly confident, pleasure-seeking playboy who knows no boundaries. Ava doesn't want to be attracted to this man, and yet she can't control the overwhelming desire that he stirs in her. She knows that her heart will never survive him and her instinct is telling her to run, but Jesse is not willing to let her go. He wants her and is determined to have her.

Book This Man (A This Man Novel Book 1)) Review :

I read a LOT of erotic romance, including BDSM themes, so I am no prude. Maybe this book had some kind of appeal in the immediate post-50 Shades world, but in the post-Harvey Weinstein world it is seriously awful. The only difference between the hero in this book and any creepy sexual predator or abusive male is his good looks. Even Harvey Weinstein is said to have had some charm — this guy does not.Spoilers ahead! The hero is the heroine’s business client, but he lures her into a sexual set-up, coming out of a hotel bathroom half-naked, expecting her to succumb to his sex appeal immediately. She does. Then, in their very first sexual encounter, he “forgets” a condom and ejaculates inside her, then follows that with virtually forcing her into anal sex — without condom or lube — then immediately returns to vaginal intercourse without giving either of them an opportunity to clean up or use a condom, which he apparently thinks is unnecessary. Not only is this recklessly unsafe sex, it’s really just gross and not at all erotic.Thereafter, he harasses her with phone calls and texts, follows her, shows up at her workplace where he physically throws her over his shoulder and drags her out to the street. He later shows up uninvited to her home pounding on the door demanding another chance to “remind her” how great the sex is by forcefully seducing her. The heroine, instead of being terrified and getting a restraining order, is worried that she will fall for this creep and be emotionally lost when he inevitably dumps her because he is too rich and handsome for her. This pretty much sums up how abusive relationships begin.I love a dominant alpha male hero, but This Man is a controlling, violent stalker and a total jerk. The heroine not only takes his verbal and physical harassment and abuse, she also works for a boss who calls her “flower” and expects her to accept sexual harassment from other male clients. We deserve better. Even in a fictional world.
I don't remember the last time that I actually hated the hero in a book before. Jesse was not likable, and honestly reminded me so much of my abusive first husband that I kept wishing Ava would dump him and get as far away from him. She's definitely deserves someone better. I was angry at her friend Kate for encouraging her to remain in the "relationship." If I had a friend dating someone like Jesse, I'd be doing everything in my power to get her away from such a potentially abusive situation. Jesse was controlling, demanding, unreasonable, and seemed rather childish and lacking true confidence for a man in his 30s. He lost his temper often, and his actions bordered on violent when he didn't get his way. I did not find one redeaming quality in him. I could forgive Ava for being naive because she's young and inexperienced, but she was very close to receiving the TSTL designation. The ending was satisfying, which is why I gave it two stars instead of one, but I will not read the next two books in the series.
